Xiamen Airlines (MF) has received authority for a new nonstop service between its base and Amsterdam in July 2015, which is the airline's first intercontinental route ever.

The airline will operate the new route with its three-cabin Boeing 787 Dreamliner, with an eye on later operating Australian routes at the end of October 2015. Reservation for the service is expected to be available at the end of March, the airline said.

Xiamen Airlines took delivery of its first 787 Dreamliner in August 2014, becoming capable of operating intercontinental long-haul flights. The airline's 787 Dreamliner features a classic three-class configuration with 236 seats - 4 in first class (P), 18 in business class (F) and 214 in economy class (Y).

Currently, the airline has applied an application to start the nonstop service to Amsterdam, Netherlands, and the European authorities will start a route case proceeding for the slot soon. The airline has won approvals from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) for the route.

Xiamen city is among the strongest European destinations for Chinese travelers, because of the popularity of holidays in France, and thereby offers a good opportunity to increase Xiamen's European connections.
